Accessibility at the Libraries
For those with special needs or disabilities
Helsingør Municipality's Libraries are continuously working to ensure equal access for everyone.
At all three libraries
- Your service dog is allowed.
- There are handicap-accessible restrooms at all three libraries and on every floor at The Cultural Yard.
- There is easy access to printers and copiers.
- There is easy access for borrowing and returning books.
- There is easy access to a computer for wheelchair users. At The Cultural Yard, there is a desk with adjustable height situated at the 3rd floor in Fakta.
The Cultural Yard
The Cultural Yard has several parking spaces for vehicles with disability signs. Access to ALL disability parking is via the car gate on Ny Kronborgvej.
The library’s two disability parking spaces are in the inner courtyard of The Cultural Yard. Car access is via Ny Kronborgvej and through the alley, along the back of The Cultural Yard. In the courtyard, there are a few steps to a revolving door where the speed can be reduced. All revolving doors at The Culture Yard can be reduced in speed by pressing a button.
Wheelchair users can access The Cultural Yard via the door to the right of the revolving door. There is a small doorbell - press it and someone from the reception will come and open the otherwise locked door. The other two disability parking spaces are located on the northeast side of The Cultural Yard, facing Ny Kronborgvej.
There is an elevator that has room for a wheelchair.
In the children's library, there is a ramp to "The Cave”.
There is enough space to move around the entire library.
Espergærde
We have good parking facilities with two handicap parking spaces close to the library entrance. Buses run to Espergærde Station right across from the library.
The library has one level and has easy access for people with disabilities.
Hornbæk Library
We have two handicap parking spaces close to the library entrance. There is a ramp up to the entrance.
The Sunflower Program – Making the Invisible Visible
Elsinore Municipal Libraries are for everyone, and we strive to meet all citizens with great friendliness and accessibility – regardless of whether they have visible or invisible disabilities.
For individuals with invisible disabilities, such as brain injuries, ADHD, anxiety, visual impairments, PTSD, autism, Alzheimer’s, etc., visiting the library may require extra time and patience.
That’s why we are part of the Sunflower Program. This means our staff are trained to warmly welcome visitors wearing the Sunflower symbol.
If you don’t already have a Sunflower lanyard, you can get one for free at Elsinore Municipal Library at The Culture Yard, Espergærde Library, or Hornbæk Library during staffed opening hours.
There’s no need to explain – we’ll provide it with a smile, no questions asked.
